Islam is compared with a building in this Hadith.

On the authority of Abdullah, the son of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
‘I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, “Islam has been built on five [pillars]: testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the salah (prayer), paying the zakat (obligatory charity), making the hajj (pilgrimage) to the House, and fasting in Ramadhan.”’ It was related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

Islam is compared with a building in this Hadith. Five pillars are mentioned for this building, which are required for its construction and normal status. First of all Muslims are required to admit that all powers and authorities are possessed by Allah (S.W.T.) and there is no other God in this world. Allah (S.W.T.) is the only God and Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) is His messenger.

This first pillar of Islam is for making sure that all the other Gods are without any power. Those people who are worshipping idols and thinking them as their Gods are on a wrong path and they must leave the idols for entering in the true path of Islam. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) is the last prophet of Allah (S.W.T.) and no other prophet would come.

Those who are saying that there are other prophets after the last prophet of Islam are also excluded from Islam. Prayers are given much importance in Islam. Muslims are required to say five times their prayers and the manners are told them so that they could establish this second pillar of Islam. Prayer is a good exercise which provides many types of benefits for the body and an important obligation is also completed.

Third pillar of Islam is zakat. This is a form of charity through which poor people could be helped. Islam is a complete religion which gives importance to all types of humans. With the help of zakat the poor people are helped and assisted in life. There is a specific percentage on money saved by a person on which zakat is obligatory. Fourth pillar of Islam is Hajj.

Those who can afford the charges to visit the Holy House of Allah (S.W.T.) must go there and perform this obligation as it is a must for those who can afford the charges and are in good state of health. If there is no problem in performance of Hajj for any person but he delays till problems arise then he is not relieved from this obligation. Hajj is compulsory on those who are able to bear it at any time in their lives.

Fifth pillar of Islam is fasting in Ramadan. Fasting is obligatory on all humans who are healthy. Those who are not able to fast due to health related problems can complete the number of fasts when they become healthy or pay for meals of two times to poor and needy people. This is helpful for realizing the trouble and problems of those who are not able to get food for them or their families.

This month is also for checking the faith of Muslims. They are prepared in this holy month to remain save from bad actions and perform good actions. This training is helpful for them to remain save from sins and bad actions in all other months. If all the pillars of Islam are followed with care and seriousness then a strong and powerful building could be made. This building of Islam is helpful for keeping the people protected from all problems in this world and also in the life of the next world.
